Destination Dartmouth Association

The Destination Dartmouth Association is based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and was incorporated as a Society in August 2016.

Our Mandate

Our mandate is to promote Dartmouth’s identity, preserve its heritage, and encourage the development of a healthy and inclusive community by:

  • Building awareness of all of Dartmouth’s many attributes
  • Communicating these attributes to residents and visitors alike
  • Forming partnerships with local and regional organizations
  • Advocating, through community engagement and other means, the development of a vibrant, progressive community
  • Promoting Dartmouth-based events, organizations, news, activities and points of interest

Advocacy & Promotional Work

  • Developed the Explore Dartmouth web site, Destination Dartmouth Facebook Page, and a video to promote Dartmouth’s many assets, including tourism and investment opportunities.
  • Requests to include the name Dartmouth on the cover of HRM’s Centre Plan.
  • Provincial policies submitted to all Dartmouth area candidates in the May 2017 provincial election.
  • Establishing a sponsorship program and preliminary fundraising work.
  • Promoting Dartmouth’s business areas: Downtown, Burnside, Main Street (Village on Main).
  • Requested that Halifax Water Commission use the proper name of the Municipality in its public notices.
  • Established a Shubenacadie “Canal District”, in cooperation with the Shubenacadie Canal Commission, Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission, and Develop Nova Scotia.
  • "Canal Walk" brochures developed in cooperation with the Canal Commission.
  • "Welcome To Dartmouth" flyers developed and distributed to hotels and tourism bureaus.
  • Monitoring water quality issues with Dartmouth's lakes.
  • Partnered with the Nova Multifest Society to develop a major multicultural festival for the Dartmouth waterfront.
  • Presentation on the need for a Lake Protection policy in the Centre Plan and an Urban Lakes Management Plan for HRM.
